National Custom & Self Build Week. Move On With Your Project
As a member of NaCSBA (National Custom and Self Build Association), ACA’s mission is to help as many people realise their dreams, and build their very own ‘Grand Design’. We are excited to announce that the National Custom and Self Build Week 2019 is taking place from 6th – 12th May.
This is a chance for future self-builders to find out about all of the various options available, build routes and developments in the sector. This could be through co-operation with a Custom Build developer, local housebuilder or by going it alone with a Self Build project.

Throughout the week NaCSBA will be promoting the industry and trying to bring Self/Custom Build to the front and centre of house building in the UK. There are several events which may be of interest to self-builders and professionals:
– Grand Designs Live – based on the Channel 4 series and presented by Kevin McCloud, this Self Build and home improvement show takes place in ExCeL London between 4th-12th May. It offers visitors one-to-one free expert advice, talks from industry professionals, new product launches and specialist exhibitors in six project zones (build, gardens, interiors, kitchens & bathrooms, technology and design arcade).
This year, NaCSBA and Grand Designs Live are organising a special ‘Busting the Myths’ event (6th-10th May), with a daily presentation on the Grand Theatre stage. Moreover, the visitors will be able to speak to a Self Build specialist from NaCSBA in the Ask the Expert area. If you visit the show on 7th May, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the possibility of building your dream home in Graven Hill, the UK’s largest Custom and Self Build development in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Get your free ticket for Grand Design Live here.
– National Self Build & Renovation Show – if you decide to visit the National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon between 17th-19th May, you will be able to speak with over 250 exhibitors and experience three days of talks, tours and one-to-one opportunities with architects, designers and other industry experts. You can book your free tickets to the event here.
– Green Building Store Showroom open day – Find out more about the Right to Build and Green Building Store’s range of triple glazed timber windows and MVHR systems: Heath House Mill, Huddersfield HD7 4JW, 11-3 pm on 11 May. There will be a short presentation on the Right to Build campaign at 12 noon and 2 pm during Green Building Store’s Showroom Open Day.

Right to Build
Following the announcement on the 1st April 2016, the regulation known as the ‘Right to Build Act’ – requires local authorities to record a formal register of people who are interested in finding land to start a Self Build project.
This is so that prospective Self Builders can be matched with suitable plots as and when they become available. If you are currently looking for a plot, you will appreciate that this is one of the most difficult parts of any project!
At a time when many people in the UK are struggling to find appropriate, affordable housing – the new legislation aims to raise awareness, and encourage potential self-builders, or house-hunters, to consider undertaking a Self or Custom Build project.
Right To Build in 2018
Although 2018 was dominated by Brexit, last year can be described as a year of evolution for the Custom and Self Build sector. The housing market is still dominated by single plots, but the number of Custom Build serviced plots are growing steadily. The annual research released by the Planning Authority revealed that the register had exceeded 40,000.
The NaCSBA’s Right to Build Task Force has been working with planning authorities, garden villages, and other developments to support more Custom and Self Build opportunities. Working with the Task Force, NaCSBA has run a series of expos to help promote knowledge and understanding of the Custom and Self Build industry within the UK, which took place in Teignbridge, Fareham, London, Glasgow, Cambridgeshire, Warrington and Leeds.

Right to Build Day on 30th October 2019 will be the first date by which planning authorities must have agreed sufficient appropriate planning permissions to match the 18,000 entries onto the local Self Build registers up to 30th October 2016.
A major focus for the year will be making this happen and using this day to encourage many more individuals and groups to consider Custom and Self Build.
Custom Build Homes
Leading the way in bringing custom build sites to market are Custom Build Homes, a BuildStore Company – a specialist estate agency which supports the sale of serviced plots and customisable homes. Through community, Custom and Self Build development they give buyers the opportunity to design and create their own home as part of a supported process.
If you are interested in building your future home tailored to your family needs and need professional support throughout the whole process, check their website and find out more about the developments currently available.
