Discovering Kloeber: Bespoke and High–Quality Glazing products

Written by Allan Corfield | 24.3.2023
AC Architects have had an office at the National Self Build and Renovation Centre since 2021. During this time, we have met many companies that have impressed us with exceptional quality, attention to detail, sustainability and prioritising clients’ needs. In this article, we would like to introduce a company that meets all these qualities – Kloeber.

Kloeber is a UK-based company specialising in bespoke, high-quality glazing products for homes and buildings.

WHO ARE KLOEBER?

Kloeber was established in 2006 and specialises in creating bespoke and high-quality timber, aluminium and alu-clad products for homes and buildings. Based in the United Kingdom, they offer various products nationwide, including doors, windows and rooflights.

Kloeber’s products are known for their exceptional quality and attention to detail. They use sustainable materials and innovative design techniques to create products that are not only beautiful but also functional and energy-efficient.

In addition to their standard product range, Kloeber also offers a bespoke design service, allowing customers to create custom-made doors, windows, and other products tailored to their specific needs and preferences.

WHAT FRAME MATERIALS DO KLOEBER OFFER?

Kloeber offers a range of different materials for their glazing packages, including timber, aluminium, and alu-clad. Each material has its own perceived strengths relevant to the specific project requirements.

The company ensures that the customer understands why one material may be better suited to their project than another.

The timber used is FSC certified and comes in pine, meranti and oak. The engineered timber used in their products is more robust, stable and higher quality than normal timber. The company’s multi-coat, microporous paint system ensures a low-maintenance finish.

Aluminium is another material offered for glazing frames, suitable for modern, contemporary projects due to its sleek appearance and consistent surface finish. The aluminium frame profiles are thermally broken to avoid condensation and increase insulation. It is also low-maintenance due to its powder-coated finish.

Alu-clad products combine a timber frame with an aluminium exterior, providing the benefits of both materials. It gives a contemporary external aesthetic with the warmth and softness of painted or clear lacquered timber on the internal faces.

Glass makes up around 90% of the surface area of doors and windows, and the company offers a range of double and triple-glazed units with different glass combinations to suit each project’s requirements and budget.

KUSTOMFOLD – BESPOKE BIFOLD DOORS

Kloeber offers a range of bespoke bifold doors called KustomFold, available in either thermally broken aluminium or solid engineered softwood, hardwood or oak.

The doors can be configured to open in a variety of ways and can include a choice of cill details, paint or stain finishes, and dual colour options. The doors can also be designed to open either inward or outward.

Additionally, KustomFold includes a selection of internal partition doors. You can see their complete list of bifold doors here.

KUSTOMSLIDE – BESPOKE LIFT & SLIDE DOORS

Kloeber’s sliding doors, KustomSlide, are offered in two options: alu-clad or aluminium.

The alu-clad version is available in softwood or oak with an aluminium cladding that can be finished in any RAL colour. The engineered timber interior can also be finished in various stains and paints.

These doors provide strength, security, great insulating values, and low maintenance. The KustomSlide Plus is a bespoke made sliding door with two, three, four, or six panels, low-profile threshold options, and double or triple tracks.

It has slim meeting stiles resulting in minimal sightlines and frame sizes ranging from 1.5m to 13m wide and up to 2.8m in height. On the other hand, the KustomSlide Mono is a single-track version with very slim sightlines and fixed panels, making it a more cost-effective option than the KustomSlide Plus.

Also, the ÜberSlide model is a sliding door with an ultra-slim design ideal for individuals seeking wide panel options and minimal sightlines, allowing for unobstructed views. Check their full range of sliding doors here.

TOP TIPS ON DECIDING ON BIFOLD VS SLIDING DOORS

  1. When considering larger openings, sliding doors are an excellent option due to their larger glass panes that provide an unobstructed view of the surroundings.
  2. It’s important to consider the floor finishes when selecting sliding doors, as a level threshold and similar flooring inside and outside can create a single seamless space when the doors are opened.
  3. For those looking to maximise insulation, the alu-clad KustomSlide is a great choice as it offers superior insulation value.
  4. Triple or double glazing can be used on all doors and windows, and the company guarantees insulation values that exceed building regulations even with their standard glass.
  5. Customers can also choose a dual-colour finish on their bespoke-made products, with a range of any RAL colour available on both sides.
  6. For those concerned with solar gain, the company offers solar-controlled glass to help reduce heat gain.
  7. Cost-conscious customers can look at the K-Fold bifold door or the EuroFold range, which offers the same high-quality bifolds with reduced options to produce them more cost-effectively while keeping the budget in mind.

WINDOWS

When it comes to a building project, windows are a critical component that require careful consideration to ensure success. Kloeber can assist with choosing the right size, materials, colours, glass, U-values, design, and positioning within the building walls, among other factors.

They can also assist with value engineering to ensure that the window package meets the project’s budget without compromising the end result.

With an expansive range of windows that include timber, aluminium, and alu-clad frame materials, double and triple glazing options and nearly 200 colour choices, Kloeber provides a wide range of options to choose from.

All of their glass is supplied as either toughened or laminated for added security and safety.

You can see all window options on their website.

SINGLE AND FRENCH DOORS

If you want a view of your garden, French doors may be worth considering. These types of doors have been used for decades as a way to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces.

French doors are known for their double-door opening arrangement and large panels that allow you to achieve a very real connection with your outside space or garden. This creates a bright, airy atmosphere, making the room more spacious.

Plus, the width of French door frames can be used successfully to line through with other glazing above, resulting in a considered elevation that works aesthetically.

GABLE GLAZING

Gable glazing can be the answer if you consider adding a stand-out architectural feature that enhances the property and draws the eye.

Gable glazing screens can create a stunning architectural presence that cannot be ignored.

They are particularly effective in vaulted ceilings, where they can add a huge “wow” factor to the interior space. From the outside, gable glazing screens enhance the external elevation, creating a visually stunning and impressive feature.

Kloeber have the expertise to design and install these fantastic features, working with you to create the centrepiece of your glazing package.

ROOFLIGHTS

Natural daylight is a valuable resource that architects and designers use to add warmth, definition, and light to interior spaces. One of the best ways to incorporate natural light into your home is by installing rooflights.

Rooflights may be a great investment for any homeowner, and they can make a significant difference in the appearance and feel of your home.

Kloeber offer a range of rooflights designed to be positioned on flat roofs to flood light into your interior space. Whether you prefer the framed, pitched option or the minimalistic, flat rooflight with its hidden frame, can transform your room for a surprisingly small cost.

IS KLOEBER A GOOD CHOICE FOR SELF-BUILDERS?

They offer a range of high-quality, customisable products that can be tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of self-builders.

Kloeber’s bespoke design service allows self-builders to create doors, windows, and other products tailored to the project’s unique requirements.

In addition, Kloeber’s products are known for their exceptional quality and energy efficiency, which are important considerations for self-builders looking to create a sustainable and eco-friendly home.
