WHAT IS ORCHARD FARM?
Orchard Farm is a new development site located in Kennington, on the northern edge of Ashford. Created by Urbanise and Steenvlinder, this exciting new plot will look to create a sustainable Self Build community in the southwest of England.
The site will have different-sized Self Build plots and will be perfectly located for a green and active community. Initially, 25 Self Build plots will be released in 2023 and we are excited to be one of the preferred partners for the development. Orchard Farm plans to have over 100 custom-built homes in the coming years.
Orchard Farm will look to promote a low-carbon lifestyle while remaining inclusive to a number of different lifestyles. The plot will provide a large range of shapes and house sizes, with infrastructure – such as electricity, roads and drains – already in place.
Orchard Farm will appeal to people who want to build their own homes, either entirely by themselves or with the help of an architect and builder. However, it’s not just architects on hand to help you. Orchard Farm has a long list of contractors, cost surveyors, mortgage advisors, and sustainability advisors who are on hand to assist you in building your dream home.

For over 14 years, ACA have been helping self-builders design their low-energy dream homes built around the Fabric First approach, utilising modern methods of construction such as ICF, SIPS, and Timber Frame. ACA have worked on over 500 projects across the UK, from small extensions to substantial housing developments. Our RIBA Chartered Practice has grown into a team of talented architects, technicians, support staff, and even boasts an in-house team of structural engineers.
We are always striving to create projects that prioritise energy efficiency and long-term satisfaction. Along with our expertise in a variety of build methods, we can also provide full Passive House design and certification.
We are here to assist and educate the self-builder throughout the build process, from the traditional parts of the architect’s role – such as the planning, building control and technical drawings for the Self Build – right through to developing a build schedule and engaging with sub-contractors. We love working closely with self-builders on their new adventure, and all the challenges that come with it.

BESPOKE HOME DESIGN
We are on hand to design and deliver your dream home. Here are the 3 services for bespoke home design we provide for prospective self-builders at the Orchard Farm:
Option 1 – Consultation and Sketch: We offer a personalised consultation via Zoom with the client and create a tailored sketch layout of their project.
Option 2 – Option 1 + BIMx Visual: In addition to the consultation via Zoom and sketch, we provide a BIMx visual that allows clients to envision their future home in 3D on their laptop or iPad.
Option 3 – Option 2 + VIP Tour of NSBRC + VR Experience: This comprehensive package includes all previous services (consultation in person), along with an exclusive VIP tour of NSBRC and a Virtual Reality (VR) walk-through of their future home.
*As an add-on, we also offer structural engineering services by AC Structures.
