Church Conversion in Glenfarg
Church Conversion in Glenfarg
This project involves the proposed change of use and conversion of Arngask Church into a contemporary family home.
Originally established in 1844 and formerly operated by the Church of Scotland, the Grade B listed building occupies an elevated and prominent position on Church Brae in Glenfarg. Although not located within a conservation area, the building holds significant architectural and historic character, which has carefully informed the design approach.
The proposal seeks to retain and celebrate key internal features, including exposed pillars and the decorative altar truss, while sensitively introducing new residential accommodation. A mezzanine level is inserted within the existing volume, alongside kitchen, bathroom and bedroom facilities, allowing the church to function as a well-proportioned family dwelling without the need for extensions or demolition.
Thermal upgrades are achieved through internal insulation and secondary glazing, improving performance while preserving the original windows and external fabric.
The result is a considered and policy-compliant conversion that secures the long-term future of a historic building, transforming it into a sustainable and characterful home for modern living.
