Light-Filled Rear Extension in Longford

Light-Filled Rear Extension in Longford

This project involved replacing an outdated rear conservatory with a contemporary single-storey extension at 112A Tewkesbury Road, Longford.

The brief focused on creating a brighter, more functional ground floor with improved storage, better circulation, and a stronger relationship to the garden.

The new design reorganises the internal layout to form an open-plan kitchen and dining space, allowing natural light to flow through the depth of the home.

A modest rear extension—occupying the footprint of the former conservatory—provides the additional space needed to achieve a generous, modern family hub.

The utility room was reconfigured and enlarged within the existing structure to improve functionality and house the boiler discreetly.

Every intervention was guided by the clients’ practical needs and their desire for a more flexible, comfortable everyday environment.

The resulting scheme enhances usability, strengthens the visual and physical connection to the garden, and creates a cohesive living space tailored to contemporary living.

The material palette includes timber or timber-effect cladding, paired with a flat roof finished in a rubber membrane concealed behind parapets and complemented by crisp metal flashings.
