Extension and Alterations to Old Post Office in Kinlochbervie
This project reimagines the former Old Post Office in Kinlochbervie through a carefully designed rear extension and internal reconfiguration, transforming the building into a flexible, energy-efficient home while retaining its original character.
The existing single-storey rear extension will be replaced with a generous two-storey addition spanning the full width of the house. At ground floor level, a light-filled open-plan kitchen and dining space will open to the garden through a glazed gable and double doors, creating a strong connection to the landscape. A utility room, accessible shower room and improved circulation will enhance everyday functionality.
Upstairs, a new bedroom and bathroom will connect seamlessly to the existing first floor, rationalising the layout and removing awkward access arrangements. Internally, the original ground floor will be opened up to create a more cohesive living space, celebrating the feature stone wall and forming both a spacious living room and a cosy snug.
The overall design balances contemporary living with the character of the original building, using simple forms and natural materials to create a warm, adaptable Highland home filled with light and designed for long-term, low-energy living..
